Textbook: None (Copies of relevant current journal articles will be distributed)
Objectives of Course
This course is designed to provide the student with an appreciation and understanding of
the rapidly changing trends in molecular and cellular biology. The specific topics to be discussed will be determined by those trends but will include such things as cloning, gene therapy
and other significant new advances in the understanding of various areas of molecular biology.
Tests and Grading
The course grade will be determined by the average of four lecture tests. These tests will
consist of a variety of question types including multiple choice and discussion. The last test will be given during the final examination week. The last test is not comprehensive.
Grading Scale
Average 90-100 85-89 80-84 75-79 70-74 65-69 63-68 60-62
Grade A A- B+ B B- C+ C C-
An average below 60 will result in a grade of F.
Attendance Policy
Regular attendance is required. Each student is allotted five absences that may be taken at
his (or her) discretion. Excuses are not required. Each absence in excess of the allotment will
result in a penalty of two points being subtracted from the final average.
