Introduction

Welcome to ENG 106: Composition 2!  I am looking forward to an interesting and productive semester.  As you know from reading the syllabus, we have a lot of worthwhile material to cover in the next four months.  First, however, we need to do some preparation.  We will begin in our first two class meetings with an introduction to the Internet.  We will meet both days in Dial 149, a computer classroom, where I will help you to create an online portfolio and post the first page on it.  Over the rest of the semester, you will post additional materials on this portfolio, where your classmates and I--as well as the rest of the world--will be able to see and use them.

Practice

Below are some activities designed to help you master the knowledge and skills covered in this unit.  Some of these activities will take place in class.  I encourage you to use the others outside class to help you master the material in this unit.
  1. Set up an e-mail account: If you do not already have an e-mail account, set one up by going through UCIS or a company such as Excite.
  2. Reserve Web space: Using my instructions, reserve space on the Web for your online portfolio.  Send me an e-mail message with your URL.
  3. Construct a Web page: Using my instructions, construct and post the index page for your online portfolio.

Conclusion
