Traveling is one of our favorite hobbies, and living in North Carolina gives us access to scores of wonderful places, including our own state's Outer Banks, great museums in Washington, D.C., and our favorite city, beautiful and historic Charleston, South Carolina. Most glorious of all, at least for me, are the spectacular Appalachian Mountains, where I have camped, hiked, jogged, biked, and just relaxed.

In the eight years before our first child was born, we traveled a lot.  The arrival of Esprit slowed us down a bit, but it also gave us one more person to have along for the ride.  Essie, it turns out, loves to travel; she even asks to stay in hotels while we're at home in Laurinburg.  Now we have another little traveler, Will, who will be joining us in the fall or spring on a trip to the mountains.  Lately, we have even begun planning educational trips for college students, taking trips to Philadelphia and Boston the last two summers.
