The virtual world Second Life is growing rapidly
  • Second Life (SL) was launched on June 23, 2003, by Linden Research, Inc. Today, it has 16 million residents.

  • The large influx of residents has brought an accompanying significant growth in the amount of land, total user hours and the in-world economy.

  • Today, residents spend more than 400 million hours a year in SL. That's almost half a billion hours.

  • They own 2 billion square meters of land (sqm).

  • Resident-to-resident financial transactions are about $400 million a year. That's nearly half a billion dollars, which is a measure of the gross domestic product in Second Life.
