2 Steps To HTML

Color code:   black = invisible HTML tags   green = visible content   gold = font color/size variables   red = hyperlinks   blue = non-HTML description

Step 1. Start with a bare bones page
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Page title goes here</TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
Hello! Welcome to my first webpage.
</BODY>
</HTML>

Step 2. Add and change colors, font size, text centering, spaces, links, images
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Page title goes here</TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY TEXT="#000000" BGCOLOR=" #CC33CC" LINK= "#66FFFF" VLINK= "#FFCC00" ALINK=" #FF0000">

<CENTER><FONT size=+2>Hello! Welcome to my first webpage.</FONT></CENTER>

<CENTER><FONT size=+1>This is minimal HTML to get you started.

<BR><BR>

Below are two hyperlink types: The mailto link is for email and the ordinary hyperlink jumps to a different web page.
</FONT></CENTER>

<CENTER>
<A HREF="MAILTO:acurtis@uncp.edu">Click here to send me an email message</A>
<BR>
<A HREF="http://www.uncp.edu">Write here the name or description of wherever the link goes</A>
</CENTER>
<IMG SRC="Lightbulb_sketch.jpg">lightbulb sketch
</BODY>
</HTML>

Review and overview
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Page title goes here</TITLE> This is shown in the title bar of your browser, not on the page itself.
</HEAD>
<BODY TEXT="#000000" BGCOLOR="#000066"LINK="#DAA520" VLINK="#FFCC00"ALINK="#FF0000">

TEXT is the default font color. BGCOLOR is the page background color.
LINK is the color of a hyperlink. VLINK is the color of a link once it has been visited. ALINK is the color of an active link as it is being being clicked.

<CENTER><FONT size=+4>Hello! Welcome to my first webpage.</FONT></CENTER>

<CENTER> keeps the content centered on the page. Centering must be closed with the </CENTER> tag.
Tags within a tag must be closed first. In the Welcome example above, you would not place </CENTER> before </FONT>.

The range of font sizes is -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3, +4. The smallest text size is -2.

<B> Makes the text boldface. </B> Ends the boldface.
<I> Makes the text italic. </I> Ends the italic.

<A HREF="MAILTO:"acurtis@uncp.edu">Please send me an email message</A>

The <BR> tag creates a line break in the text on the page. Using <BR><BR> twice inserts two blank lines. In this example, using two creates a double-space line break between the links.

<A HREF="http://www.uncp.edu">Type the name or description of the link destination here</A>
<IMG SRC="Lightbulb_sketch.jpg"> Grabs the image from its location on the web and brings it into this web page.lightbulb sketch

</BODY>
</HTML>
