Tips for Shooting People
There is a great difference between photos made in the direct light of a bright sunny day and photos made in the indirect light of a cloudy day.
Some suggestions for shooting people outdoors:
- Practice with shots on both a sunny day and a cloudy day.
- Take all shots outside with a plain background, not a sky or lighter area.
- Take all photos in a vertical format.
- Use the same person as the subject for all pictures.
- Position yourself with the sun behind you over one of your shoulders.
- Bracket each shot, if your camera permits.
- Stand back at a medium distance from the subject and use the zoom to move in on the person.
- Focus on your subject's eyes so the eyes are sharp and in focus.
The quality of light on your subject can alter the dynamics of your photos drastically.
