Clean.
Thatís the first word that pops into Debra Jenkinsís, 43, head when asked about Germany. At least when it comes to Stuttgart, Germany; the place Jenkins called home for 10 months.
Fortunately, Jenkins had a lot more to say about Stuttgart than its cleanliness.
Jenkins lived in Germany with her husband and three children in Patch Barracks, an army base, from November 1991 to September 1992. There she worked as the administrative assistant for the Youth Center.
There were many little things Jenkins enjoyed about Stuttgart. Itís cleanliness for one, the moderate summers and the snow that fell during winter, and the central location Stuttgart had that allowed her and her husband to visit Paris and Czechoslovakia.
Though she lived in Germany for only 10 months, Jenkins recalled many memorable moments including one particular visit to a Nazi concentration camp.
She had gone with her husband to visit a concentration camp and the memory of it is still with her even over a decade later. Jenkins remembered that as the tour guide spoke, everyone else was silent, some people were even crying as they walked through the concentration camp, taking in a close and personal view of one historyís most infamous moments.
Originally, Jenkins and her family were supposed to stay in Germany for one year, but when the Embassy was closed, their time in Germany was cut short. Still, Jenkins would recommend a visit to Germany and sees it as a good place to live.
With a husband in the military, Jenkins has had the experience and pleasure of living in various places in the United States, as well as Africa and Puerto Rico. Currently, Jenkins lives in Raleigh, N.C. with her husband and son where she is once again preparing to move.
