Getting married in SL is similar to getting married in RL but with a few
exceptions.
Many people in second life dream of having a big beautiful wedding, and at
the same time there are wedding planner and designers that have the
opportunity to build, plan and design dream weddings for others.
For many people SL is a place when they get to live out their RL fantasies.
Today we live in a time where everything cost a pretty penny. In SL a wedding
typically costs L$30,000 for the ceremony alone and up to L$80,000 for a large
celebration.
Wedding planners in SL make an average of L$30,000 per wedding, and that does
not include the cost of the clothing.
No diamonds.
"A lot of people use planners. It takes a lot of worry out of their big day
and most don't have the space to set up a big wedding place for the one event,
" said Jade Opel, a SL and RL wedding planner.
There is one aspect of a wedding that differs a great deal in SL as apposed to
RL. There are no diamonds in SL. Diamonds are rare and precious and can be
easily duplicated when purchased in SL, therefore diminishing the market value
of the diamond.
Males in SL typically buy cubic zirconium rings for their new brides that
shine just a much as a RL diamond.
Short engagements.
Emotional connections made in SL are real and quite often people are getting
married in less then three months.
When Benji Krach met Foster Gretzky, they decided to get married with only
knowing one another for two months.
Krach, 30 in RL, says that she loves Foster with her RL heart, not just with
her SL heart.
"I love him in RL and SL, these aren't just feelings that go away when I turn
off the computer, we talk on the phone almost every day," said Krach.
Many people seem to wonder whether having a relationship in SL is cheating in
RL. Krach keeps her RL very private and enjoys the comfort in having a
relationship in SL.
