As a resident of Second Life, avatars can teleport to different regions to experience food, shopping and learning. The Publishing Village is one of many educational regions where residents can enjoy fiction and non-fiction reading.
“We have educational books like SL Guides and poetry,” said Selina Greene, one of the owners of Publishing Village. Greene said that residents can also enjoy literary fiction like Arcadia and Summersdale.

The RL (Real Life) company, based out of London, recently held a three day book fair event in the village. “We had over 40 exhibitors and 15-18 different events over the three days,” said Greene. Author podcast and live Q&A sessions with New York Times bestsellers were just a couple of events that the 1400 visitors could take part in over the three days.
Greene said that the events that are held in the publishing community typically turnout a decent crowd. She said that the SIM limit in SL is 40 residents per event. They tend to have 30-35+ in attendance.

From an educational standpoint, Publishing Village reaches out to those who want more knowledge on special topics. “We do hold events that explain SL book formats,” said Greene, “how to market their books and how to get published in RL, not just author talks.”
Mystic Academy, one of the 40 shops in the village, is a premiere group for spirituality on SL. It currently services 700 members.
The Mystic Academy is considered to be a spiritual academy of learning where residents can view a library of books, participate in discussions, and take courses to learn more about spirituality and what it means.
Publishing Village has been in existence for less than three months. They are currently building a new site on Book Island, Media World.
