Caffeine . . .

Withdrawal From Caffeine

Caffeine is a stimulant that has some of the same effects on a user as certain illegal drugs have.

Caffeine's side effects are “remarkably similar to that produced by amphetamine and cocaine,” according to Caffeine: A Drug of Abuse? by Roland R. Griffiths and Geoffrey K. Mumford.

For some of us, caffeine can make a huge difference in the way we feel. Some people react to the drug by being more alert than normal. It gives them the edge that they need to get through the day. Others have little or no reaction at all.

After the wonderful surge of energy wears off, however, caffeine has its downside. Consuming caffeine can make the user tired and sleepy, and he or she may lose concentration. It can also cause headaches. This describes what is known as caffeine withdrawal.
