Phi Alpha Theta — The Alpha Delta Xi Chapter

 

Phi Alpha Theta is an international history honor society that offers select membership to undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty.  Phi Alpha Theta is dedicated to the professional, educational, and personal development of its members through promoting and providing intellectual and social activities for individuals with a common interest in history.

 

Phi Alpha Theta Mission Statement

"We are a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians.  We seek to bring students, teachers and writers of history together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication by our members in a variety of ways." 

Requirements for Membership

   Undergraduate Students

  • Completion of at least twelve (12) hours of history credit with a GPA of 3.1 or higher
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Initial membership fee of forty dollars (lifetime membership in the organization)
  • Optional fee of fifteen dollars for an honor cord to be worn at graduation.

   Graduate Students

  • Completion of twelve (12) semester hours towards their Master's Degree
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher

  • March 1, 2007 — Deadline for new member applications
  • April 1, 2006 — The Phi Alpha Theta regional meeting for the Carolinas was held at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Four UNCP students — Mary Gyves, Jennifer Nunez, Ben Secrist, and Mark Thompson — were among the participants at the conference. Each of them presented a strong paper, and Mark Thompson's was voted the most outstanding for his particular panel. Click HERE for images from the conference..

  • March 30, 2005 —The Alpha Delta Xi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta inducted into the organization ten new members: Mary Gyves, Kelly Russell, David Lee, Amanda Goforth, Heath Brewer, AJ Mead, Nicole Thorp, David Keith, Cindy Kanemura, and Ashley Patterson.
  • April 2004The Alpha Delta Xi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta inducted into the organization seven new members: Blake Tyner, Rebecca Holston, Travis Redmond, Peta Bivans, Hannah Harrell, Jennifer Sechler, Jimmy Locklear, Wendla Adams, and Matthew Bobby.
