admission requirements

The admissions process, for all students who wish to earn a graduate degree from UNC Pembroke, requires submission of the following documents to the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies:

  1. A completed, signed application form (PDF - requires Adobe Reader) and application fee.
  2. Three letters of recommendation from academic and professional references.
  3. Official score reports from the examination required for your program.
  4. Two official copies of your transcript from every academic institution at which you have earned undergraduate or graduate credits. Even if an undergraduate institution has posted previous work as transfer credit, official transcripts from the institution at which you took the course(s) are required.
  5. A copy of all current teaching licenses is required for admission to all programs leading to K-12 teacher licensure.

Some programs require additional components or specific minimum scores. Check to see if there are additional, program-specific requirements for the program to which you are applying.


International Students

In addition to items 1, 2, and 3 listed above, international students must provide:

4. A transcript evaluation from either World Education Service or International Education Services
5. Official TOEFL scores (The minimum required score is 550, or 213 if computer-based, or 80 for Internet-based for all programs except English Education which requires 570/230/88.)
6. Financial Verification forms (PDF - requires Adobe Reader)

Visiting Students

The application process for students who are enrolled in a graduate program at another institution and wish to take courses at UNCP to transfer back to their degree-granting institution requires:

  1. A completed application (PDF - requires Adobe Reader) and application fee
  2. A letter from your Dean or Program Director stating that you are in good-standing and authorized to enroll at UNC Pembroke to earn transfer credit. The letter should be directed to:
