Application Guidelines

All students seeking to enroll in any graduate class must be admitted to the School of Graduate Studies. To be considered for full or provisional admission to a degree program, an applicant must:

  • submit a completed application form to the School of Graduate Studies
  • pay a $45.00 non‑refundable application fee - *see special handling fees below under priority processing dates.
  • submit two official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
  • have a satisfactory undergraduate academic record and meet at least one of the following minimum GPA (4.0 scale) requirements: Applicants must have an overall GPA of at least a 2.5 on all undergraduate work, or an overall GPA of at least a 3.0 in the undergraduate major, or a GPA of at least a 3.0 on all undergraduate work taken in the senior year
  • submit an official report of satisfactory scores on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT), the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), or the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) {required for M.B.A.)
  • have three academic and/or professional recommendations submitted on their behalf.  At least one recommendation should be from a college/university faculty member in the undergraduate major of the applicant; others should be from the applicant’s employer/supervisor
  • submit a copy of a current NC teaching license if applying to the M.S.A., M.A.Ed., or an M.A. licensure program.

Submission Guidelines

The UNC Pembroke School of Graduate Studies accepts applications at any time. Special conditions apply to applications that are complete prior to pre-registration and to late applications which require special handling.

Priority Processing Dates

If all required application documents are on file in the Graduate School office by the "Priority Processing" date, you will receive an admissions decision prior to the end of the current semester and may be eligible to pre-register for your semester of admission.

*Please note that applications sent after the indicated dates for the incoming semester may incur a special handling fee of $15.00 which is required at the time your application is submitted.

  • Spring Admission: Processing fee begins October 15
  • Summer Admission: Processing fee begins - March 15
  • Fall Admission: Processing fee begins - April 15
