2009-10 on stage for youth series

Educational programs that bring the classroom to the stage!

Please call the box office to make your reservations. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis. Please provide the name of the school, contact person and number of students and chaperones. One chaperone ticket is complimentary with the purchase of ten student tickets. Any reservation not canceled one week prior to the performance will be billed to the school.

Henry & Mudge Henry & Mudge

Moving from the city to a new house in the country can be tough. Just ask Henry, who can't find a playmate in his new neighborhood! Luckily, he's got Mudge, a great big, 182-pound canine buddy, with whom he can share all kinds of adventures!  Henry discovers that having a pet is a big responsibility -- they need to be fed, they need to be taken out for walks, and of course they need lots of love and playtime! And when the dog is as big as Mudge is, they also need good training. Henry teaches his new friend to sit, heel, and shake his hand, but rolling over is one trick Henry just can't seem to teach Mudge, no matter how hard he tries.

When Henry's cousin Annie comes for a visit, Mudge is so charmed by her that he finally rolls over at her command! Henry thinks Mudge must love Annie more than him, because the dog only does the trick for her. Very upset, Henry runs away into the cold dark woods to find adventures on his own. Mudge follow's the boy's scent into the forest -- he really does love Henry and doesn't want to be without him.  Will the two friends be reunited? Sponsored by McDonalds. Study Guide available.

The North Carolina Symphony has one of the most extensive music education programs of any U.S. orchestra, performing over 40 education concerts a year for students throughout North Carolina. The program is designed to introduce students in the third through fifth grades to the principles of orchestral music, culminating in a live performance by the North Carolina Symphony.

The program is a cooperative effort with music and arts teachers in the public, private and home school systems. Each year in advance of the season, teachers are invited to attend a workshop where they learn techniques to instruct their students in the fundamentals of music, musical terminology, the instruments of the orchestra and concert repertoire. “One evening, after thinking it over for some time, Harold decided to go for a walk in the moonlight.” So begins Harold and the Purple Crayon, the first of seven delightful picture books by Crockett Johnson, following the zany adventures of an inventive young boy. As it turned out, there wasn’t any moon that night nor was there a path to walk on, so Harold simply drew them. And thus his journey began. Resourceful and brave, Harold creates the world he wants to explore, using nothing more than a big purple crayon and his sky’s the-limit imagination. Enchantment Theatre’s production will take your school and family audiences on a wild ride as Harold jets to Mars (shooting stars, space ships!), joins a circus (he walks a tightrope!) and meets a king in an enchanted garden (of course, there’s a dragon). The “Harold” books have captivated families for more than fifty years, celebrating the imagination of children and the unique way they see the world. Study Guide available.

With the help of Dog, Cat, and Hen, Baby Bird sets out in search of Mother Bird in this colorful musical adventure based on P.D. Eastman’s whimsical and well-loved picture book. Fourth grade is not easy and after spending a year planning her "positively purple" birthday party, Megan finds herself at odds with new student Alexis. To Megan, Alexis has it all: beauty, brains, and athletics—she’s practically perfect in every way. Though Megan tries to be nice to her, Alexis is anything but friendly, making Megan wonder, "Does she not like me because I'm deaf?" When they’re forced to collaborate on a science project, Megan discovers Alexis’s secret. Based on the children’s book by Academy Award® winner Marlee Matlin (Best Actress, Children of a Lesser God) and Doug Cooney, this touching new musical—simultaneously performed in spoken English and American Sign Language—is an important reminder that despite first impressions, nobody’s perfect.
