Join Givens Performing Arts Center for one of theatre’s most beloved romantic tragedies as we kick off the 2017-2018 Professional Artists Season. Director Jonathan Drahos and a professional ensemble recreate Shakespeare’s timeless classic for one night only. The city of Verona is the setting for a feud between the Montague and Capulet families, which finds two star-crossed lovers caught between revenge and a secret marriage. Young Romeo and Juliet, forced to grow up quickly, become the victims of fate and despair. Don’t miss this modern interpretation of one of Shakespeare’s most popular classic tales.

Derik Nelson & Family’s signature sound features velvety three-part vocal harmonies only a family can deliver. Siblings Derik, Riana, and Dalten have been performing together since childhood. They’ve garnered over 3 million views on YouTube, and toured extensively to raise money for music education. Derik has appeared regularly as the lead guitarist on television’s “Glee,” among other shows.

Who's Bad: A Tribute to Michael Jackson

Who’s Bad’s live performance is an unrivaled celebration of pop music’s one true King. Their power-packed performance of Michael Jackson’s expansive catalog has ignited crowds on every continent and can only be described as a jaw-dropping, musical must-see. As the longest-running Michael Jackson tribute band, and the only one to predate his untimely passing, Who’s Bad has awed even the skeptics, selling out nearly 50 venues in the United Kingdom including London’s O2 in December of 2010, the venue where the King of Pop was slated to end his career with a 50-show “This Is It” concert series.

Cirque Dreams Holidaze

Be amazed by this holiday spectacle with over 300 costumes, 20 acts and 30 artists from every corner of the globe.  It’s a new cirque show, Broadway musical, and family Christmas spectacular all in one! Hailed by The New York Daily News as a “delicious confection of charm, sparkle and talent by the sleighload & so full of energy it could end our dependence on oil.”

9th Annual Holiday Extravaganza

Friday, December 1, 8 p.m.

Celebrate the holidays with a musical extravaganza that puts the talents of the many UNCP performing groups, students and faculty on full display. Virtually all of the university’s ensembles and choirs will gather to perform uplifting renditions of holiday favorites. This family-friendly event also features a fun sing-along of well-known Christmas carols. Come early and catch the “Tuba Christmas” mini-concert at 7:30 p.m. in front of GPAC. 

Proceeds from this concert go to support music scholarships.

Well Strung

Well-Strung, a New York City based string quartet, derives their unique blend of vocals and strings by fusing classical music with the pop music of today. Members Edmund Bagnell (1st violin), Chris Marchant (2nd violin), Daniel Shevlin (cello), and Trevor Wadleigh (viola) spend their time making new music and touring internationally.

On Golden Pond

On Golden Pond is an American treasure. Many of us are familiar with the story through the Academy Award-winning film with Henry and Jane Fonda and Katharine Hepburn. Others have attended one of the literally thousands of productions this extraordinary play has received over the years. Something deep and profound resonates through the events that unfold in this American masterpiece brilliantly penned by Ernest Thompson and performed by the Montana Repertory Theatre.
