CAMPUS-WIDE SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING PROGRAM

 

Facilities management (FM) will be rolling out the campus-wide single stream recycling February 25, 2009.

Recycling bins will be placed in each campus facility including residence halls. The program will start with one recycling bin per facility per floor.  Typically the locations will be lobbies (near the main entrance) and main public areas on upper floors.

What is single stream recycling?

Single stream recycling is the most user friendly recycling program in practice. All recyclable materials (Paper, Plastic, Metal, and Glass) are placed in one recycling bin and that’s it!  You’ve done your part!

The recyclable material is then taken off campus, sorted by the vendor, and forwarded to the appropriate recycling center.

As the recycling program develops further, FM will roll out smaller individual recycling cans that will be placed in all classrooms and offices.  These blue recycling cans resemble a regular trash can but will have our recycling logo and be used only to take recyclables to the main facility recycling bin.  This will minimize the number of trips to the larger recycling bins per floor.  We hope this will encourage and enhance participation in our campus wide program.

REVISED SMOKING POLICY:

The UNCP Smoking Policy has been revised to comply with the new General Statutes prohibiting smoking 100 feet from the perimeter of all State owned facilities including Residence Halls. Click here to read a copy of the General Statues.

Below you will find the campus map indicating the locations of smoking stations and the 100' perimeter around each facility. Signage is also being placed at the entrances.

Existing smoking stations (attached to the sides of facilities) are being left up at the entrance as a courtesy to visitors and will be systematically removed throughout fall semester.

Since this policy is self policing, we encourage everyone to carefully review the policy and adhere to the General Statutes.
