Performance Contracting

UNCP Facilities management is engaging in a performance Contracting Effort.  We are contracting with a private Energy Service Company (ESCO); Siemens, Inc.  to perform an Investment Grade Audit (IGA).  Four buildings have been identified for this energy audit; Oxendine Science Complex, Old main, Livermore Library, and Jones Health & PE Center.  This IGA audit will identify energy conservation measures (ECM) and determine their potential costs savings.  Once the ECM’s are approved by UNCP, the ESCO will install new energy efficient equipment/technologies to replace the old equipment/technologies.  The ESCO will then guarantee the cost savings will cover all project costs and if it does not, they will subsidize the difference.  The ESCO will also work with Facilities management staff regarding training and offer service agreements so that the guaranteed savings can be realized over the term of the contract.

Did You Know?

  • UNCP has complied with the North Carolina law (SB 668) requiring a reduction of energy use by 15% by 2010 (based on ASHRAE 2004 baseline).  Our next goal is to reduce our energy consumption by 30% by year 2015.
  • For over ten years Facilities Management staff has used electric powered carts and service vehicles to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Facilities Operations has met the NC Petroleum Reduction mandate to reduce our petroleum usage by 20% by year 2010.
  • All irrigation on campus is non-potable water from ground wells and is not purchased from the Town of Pembroke.
  • UNCP Operations installed low-flow water fixtures in many of our campus facilities including Jones Athletic Center and Caton Fieldhouse.  UNCP was able to reduce its water consumption by over 952,000 gallons during the FY 2010 third quarter compared to FY 2009 third quarter.  A savings of $4204 per month!
