Enrique J. Porrúa, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Department Chair

Natural from Madrid, Spain, Dr. Porrúa graduated with a B.A. in History from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid in 1991. In 1999, he received a M.A. in History from Texas Tech University. His Master's thesis was published in New York in 2001 under the title "The Diary of Antonio de Tova on the Malaspina Expedition (1789-1794)." Later, he graduated with a Ph.D. in Spanish also from Texas Tech. With an introduction by Dr. Janet Pérez (TTU), his dissertation "El discurso postmodernista en la trilogía gallega de Camilo José Cela" was published in 2007. Additionally, he has developed several instructional materials in digital and printed platforms for the US Department of Defense. Dr. Porrúa has been teaching a variety of Language and Literature courses at UNC-Pembroke since August of 2003. He was appointed Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages in July of 2010.
