Cecilia’s alma mater is the University of Central America “José Simeón Cañas” (UCA), where she graduated in Education (K-12) with specialty in Chemistry and Biology. Her work in education spans to 20 years in different countries. Ten of those years of experience are from teaching Spanish in the Cumberland County School System. Teaching at universities and high schools has exposed her to different types of students and levels of learning. In her native country of El Salvador, as well as in Hawaii and North Carolina, she has taught all levels of students with various degrees of sophistication, of different ages and ethnicities. Cecilia has used language labs, online resources, as well as traditional lecturing, journaling, role playing, and cultural activities to enhance her lessons. Cecilia is a National Board Certified Teacher of World Languages other than English (NBCT) in Spanish. In addition she holds a MA in Spanish Language from Middlebury College. Her research paper title “Politically Engaged Women: Ashes of Izalco by Claribel Alegría and Deeds of a Good Citizen by Claudia Hernández“ concentrated on social issues and violence in El Salvador, particularly during and after key years--1932 and 1992. Presently, she is completing her doctoral studies at Middlebury College. She supplements her academic interests by attending numerous workshops, many of which attest to her abiding interest in contemporary developments in language pedagogy. Her passion as an educator is to motivate her students to challenge themselves to grow in their knowledge. She wants to inspire her students in the learning process and to provide them with the right tools to succeed in that endeavor.
