etl resource center

MISSION

The ETL Resource Center supports the education of UNCP students in four ways. First, it makes reference books, films, CDs, and other educational materials available to instructors, who may check out materials and use them to prepare lessons, supplement classroom teaching, or otherwise enhance their instruction of students. Second, it manages the A-V Theatre (Dial 123), computer classroom (Dial 149), computer lab (Dial 128), and A-V equipment—including overhead projectors—for use by instructors in the classroom. Third, it serves students by making reference books, films, CDs, and other educational materials available for use in the ETL Resource Center. Fourth, it provides space and equipment, including computers, for students to use in conducting research and completing other kinds of academic work.

DIRECTOR

The role of the director of the ETL Resource Center will be to provide computer technical support for faculty, staff, and students and to assist faculty, staff, and students with research. The director of the ETL Resource Center will also provide equipment in the Resource Center to faculty for use in their classrooms and in the AV Theatre (Dial 123), computer lab (Dial 128) and computer classroom (Dial 149). The director is Tina Emanuel.

POLICIES

No food or drinks are allowed in the ETL Resource Center. Students may not check materials out of the center. The three computers in the center are to be used by faculty and students for academic work only. Users should refrain from playing CDs, playing games, and chatting to avoid interfering with other people’s work. Policies for the ETL Resource Center are set by the department’s Instructional Resources Committee.

RESERVATIONS

Faculty members should use the following procedure for reserving the A-V Theatre (Dial 123), the computer classroom (Dial 149), and the computer lab (Dial 128), as well as televisions, VCRs, and other audio-visual equipment:

  1. No reservations for use of Room 149, Room 128, or the A/V Theatre, may be made until the week prior to the start of each semester.
  2. During the three-week period comprising that week and the first two weeks of the semester, each faculty member may reserve each of these resources for a maximum of three class meetings per month during that semester.
  3. After the second week of the semester, any faculty member may reserve any of the above resources for dates and times that have not already been booked by a colleague; no further restrictions will apply.
  4. Reservations for videotapes, audio equipment, and other resources not specified in (1) above should be made at least 48 hours prior to the time they will be needed.
  5. All reservations will be coordinated by the director of the ETL Resource Center.
  6. Faculty members who find that they will not need a resource at a time previously reserved for them should inform the director of the ETL Resource Center as soon as possible, but no later than the day before they had originally planned to use the resource, to allow colleagues ample notice of its availability for that time.
