How can I archive my discussion board forums?

Is there a way for an instructor to "close" a discussion at a certain time (allow no additional postings after, say, midnight of a certain day)?

Gradebook

What does it mean when I see a "padlock" icon next to a student's quiz in the gradebook?

  • If you see a "padlock" icon in the gradebook and then click on it and see no responses on any of the questions (after the student says they have submitted the test), you are likely experiencing the "double-click" problem in which if a student double clicks on the launch assessment button, 2 instances or attempts of the quiz are created. When this happens you should clear the attempt so that the student can try taking the quiz again. It would be a good idea to include this information with whatever quiz instructions you provide to your students, or perhaps put it in the announcements section of your course so that students are aware that they should not double-click on the link to the assessment.

How can I archive my discussion board forums?

  • Go to your discussion board and click on the title of the forum you wish to archive, then click "click here for archives" then "add archive". Give the archive a title and description then click "submit". Click the "modify" button next to the archive name-- at the bottom of the screen select the threads that you wish to move into the archive then click "submit".

Is there a way for an instructor to "close" a discussion at a certain time (allow no additional postings after, say, midnight of a certain day)?

  • If you uncheck "add new threads" under forum settings, students the Add New Thread button is removed from the student screen and they are unable to add anything new to the discussion board.
