Dr. Catherine Parisian

Catherine ParisianCatherine Parisian received her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in English Language and Literature in 2005. Her areas of specialization include book history and bibliographical studies, eighteenth-century British Literature, and the novel. Upon completing her Ph.D. she was commissioned by the Bibliographical Society of America to write The First White House Library: A History and Annotated Catalogue (2010 Penn State University Press). She currently has a contract from Ashgate publishing for “A Publication History of Frances Burney’s Cecilia” (forthcoming 2011).

Dr. Parisian joined the UNCP English and Theatre Department in the fall of 2008. Since being at UNCP she has enjoyed teaching theme-centered first year writing courses on “Sustainable Living” and “The Titanic: History, Fiction, and Myth” as well as Women’s Literature and Literary Genre courses. Dr. Parisian encourages her classes to become a dynamic community of active learners in which students participate in the creation of knowledge through on line discussions of subject matter, presentations, and in class activities.

Dr. Parisian also participates in a number of scholarly organizations. She currently serves as the affiliate societies’ coordinator for the American Society of Eighteenth-Century Studies. In this capacity she serves as a liaison between ASECS and its affiliate societies which number over thirty. She also serves on the program committee for the Bibliographical Society of America and is an active member in the Burney Society of North America.

In her free time Dr. Parisian enjoys spending time with her cats and husband, in-line skating, gardening, attending theatrical and musical performances, and traveling.
