Sigma Tau Delta members, November 2011

Sigma Tau Delta Members, November 2011. L to R: Tank Steiner (president), Daria Bannerman, Blake Davis (secretary), Talia Cihla (treasurer), Brittany Glenn (vice-president), Amelia Philbrook, Jaclyn Valino, Adrienne Chavis, and Scott Hicks (advisor).

Organization Information:

The Sigma Xi chapter of Sigma Tau Delta invites students majoring or minoring in English to apply for a lifetime membership in the national English honor society ($37). There are two categories of membership: active and associate. Active membership is available to students with a minimum of a B or equivalent average in English, who rank at least in the highest thirty-five percent of their class in general scholarship, and who have completed at least three semesters of college work and two English courses beyond freshman composition. Associate membership is available to currently enrolled students, undergraduate or graduate, who have the requisite academic background but who are not majoring or minoring in English.

Membership in Sigma Tau Delta is an outward recognition of personal accomplishment. It provides opportunities for those interested in English language and literature to join with like-minded persons on the local, regional, national, and international levels and to participate in and present professional work at conferences and conventions at these levels. Members receive the Newsletter while they remain active in their local chapters. They also receive and have the opportunity to contribute to the award-winning literary publication, The Rectangle, and are eligible to compete for several $1,000-$2500 scholarships and awards. There are also internship and graduate assistantship opportunities available for members.
