The English Language Institute (ELI)

Mission Statement

The English Language Institute (ELI) prepares international students to become responsible global citizens by embracing diversity, thinking critically, and communicating effectively. Utilizing holistic pedagogies rooted in experiential learning, we have infused our pioneering curricula with ample opportunities for independent and group studies as well as cross-cultural interaction. 

Vision Statement

The ELI develops and implements innovative programs in English as a Second Language (ESL) and English for a Special Purpose (ESP) for the growing international student body at UNC Pembroke. We are committed to preparing students for academic and professional success through superior instruction by highly qualified, dedicated instructors emphasizing both linguistic competency and cultural acclimation.
