BIO
Dr. Irene Pittman Aiken, professor in the School of Education, currently serves as the Associate Dean of the School of Graduate Studies. At UNCP since 1994, Dr. Aiken has served in a variety of positions including Director of the Teaching Fellows Program, Coordinator of Professional Studies, Program Director of the Graduate Elementary Education program and Chair of the Department of Professional Studies, Middle Grades and M.A.T.

RESEARCH INTERESTS
Dr. Aiken's recent research focuses on online teaching and learning as well as student engagement. Best practices for teaching and learning science are also research interests as are various aspects of teacher preparation (particularly field experiences).
