UNCp's Evacuation procedures for people with disabilities
When a fire alarm sounds or flashes:
· Exit the building immediately.
· If unable to physically exit through stairwells:
A staff person on each floor will check for disabled people and call 911 to report the location of the person needing help.
A staff person or student should assist the disabled person with getting to a safe place.
Proceed to a safe place away from the incident, in a room with windows, and near the stairway.
Close the door to the room.
Go the window.
The person assisting the disabled person should inform emergency personnel that a person with a disability is in the room. (Bang on the window or yell out of the window).
Wait for emergency personnel to evacuate the disabled person from the building.
