Game Systems

As of March 11th, 2013 residential students are able to register game consoles and media devices themselves here. This page is also available in BraveWeb via the "Manual Device Enrollment" link. Students will have to verify their credentials and agree to the “acceptable use policy” on a screen similar to the one below.

After pressing “submit”, users will be presented with a screen where they must specify their MAC or physical adapter address, and the type of device submitted. (The address will be six pairs of letters and numbers separated by dashes i.e., 00-0F-FE-40-99-74.) Key in the MAC address without the hyphens. You may also be presented with an option to provide contact information, for automatic notification of when device enrollment will be complete.

NOTE: The console or device must already be connecting to the network via the appropriate Ethernet or wireless connection before performing this step. Otherwise, the system will not accept the MAC Address. For information on connecting to the wireless, see the next section.

It is important that you specify the wireless MAC address of your device if you plan on using your device wirelessly, and provide the wired MAC address if you plan on using your device over wired Ethernet.

When all relevant information has been entered, click "Enroll Device". Up to ten devices can be added and managed this way.

Wireless

UNCP has a special wireless network meant for game consoles and other devices without a browser. This network is invisible and will not automatically appear. Prior to enrolling the device for wireless use, users must add the following information to the console or device to connect.

SSID: uncpgamenet
WEP Key: 1111111111111

With the device connecting to this wireless network, it can be enrolled on the Manual Device Enrollment page, as explained above.

 

GAME SYSTEM INFORMATION

Below is a list of vendor websites for popular video game consoles. These sites detail how get to and manage your wireless settings for these devices.

 

Please remember DoIT does not support game systems (and other media devices) other than registering them on the network. If you need additional assistance, please contact the manufacturer or search the Internet for instructions.

 

You can find instructions on how to find the MAC address for several popular video game consoles below.



Microsoft Xbox 360

  1. Go to the My XBox area of the Xbox Dashboard
  2. Select System Settings
  3. Select Network Settings
  4. Select Wired Network
  5. Select Configure Network
  6. On the right you will find an Additional Settings tab
  7. Select Advanced Settings
  8. Adapter Address is listed as Wired MAC Address

 

 

  • Newer Xbox 360 consoles with built in WiFi use the same MAC address for wired or wireless access. 
  • If you have an older console which uses a legacy WiFi adapter please consult the adapter's manual.

 



Nintendo Wii

  1. Select the Wii button in the lower left corner
  2. Select Wii Settings in the lower right corner
  3. Click the right arrow to advance to the next settings
  4. Select the Internet option
  5. Select the Console Information option.
  6. The adapter address will be listed under USB Ethernet Adapter MAC Address

  5. Select the Console Information option.
  6. The wireless MAC address will be listed at the top of this page.



Nintendo Wii U

  • The Nintendo Wii U does not have wired ethernet ports built in. DoIT is unaware of an official ethernet adapter at this time.

 

 

  1. From the Wii U Menu, select System Settings.
  2. Using the Left Stick select the Internet icon and press the A Button.
  3. Select "View MAC Address" and wait a moment for the MAC address to be displayed.

 



Nintendo 3DS

  • The Nintendo 3DS does not have wired ethernet ports built in. DoIT is unaware of an official ethernet adapter at this time.

 

  1. Turn on your Nintendo 3DS and access the System Settings by tapping the wrench icon.
  2. Tap Internet Settings.
  3. Tap Other Information.
  4. Tap Confirm MAC Address. Your system's MAC Address will be displayed on the screen.



Sony Playstation 3

  1. Power up the PlayStation3 without any disc in the drive
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Network Settings
  4. Select the first option, Settings and Connection Status List
  5. This screen will list information for both Wired and Wireless Connections. Make sure you are not looking under the heading of Wireless.
  6. The adapter address will be listed under MAC Address

 

 

  1. Power up the PlayStation3 without any disc in the drive
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Network Settings
  4. Select the first option, Settings and Connection Status List
  5. information for both Wired and Wireless Connections. Make sure you are looking under the heading of Wireless.
  6. The adapter address will be listed under MAC Address

 



Sony Playstation Vita

  • The Sony Playstation Vita does not have wired ethernet ports built in. DoIT is unaware of an official ethernet adapter at this time.

 

  • From the Vita Home Screen, tap the Settings application and then tap Start.
  • Swipe up on the screen to scroll down to the System option, and then tap the System option.
  • Tap the System Information option.
  • Your MAC Address will be on this screen.
