Student Technology Support Communication
The Division of Information Technology is taking a different approach with reaching out to the students this year. Cindy Saylor, Assistant Chief Information Officer for Educational Technologies and Client Services, hosted a poster-making competition over the summer for DoIT staff to help advertise the DoIT Helpdesk services, hours, and contact information. Judges for the contest were Mary Helen Walker (Disability Support Services), Robert Canida (Office of Multicultural and Minority Affairs), Michael Alewine (Livermore Library), and Beth Froeba (Center for Academic Excellence). The judges chose three posters, which were printed into 22 copies for marketing DoIT services across campus. The posters can be found in most residence halls and academic buildings. Saylor says that most freshmen are unaware of DoIT and the Helpdesk and these posters should assist in spreading information to the campus community.
In addition to these posters, DoIT has been offering training sessions for students. Johnathan Kerns has been facilitating training sessions based on the topic of assistance students requested in an email survey. He has offered presentations covering items from RIAA violations, using BraveMail web applications, and proper maintenance of computers.
DoIT is currently working to create YouTube videos as online tutorials for student use.
