UNCP and Royall: Using technology as a tool to address institutional goals
UNCP’s Enrollment Management Division recently engaged Royall and Company, a highly-successful Internet-based marketing firm dedicated to helping institutions like UNCP meet our enrollment goals. Using well-tested market strategies, Royall and Company’s effort focuses on attracting prospective students that will fit UNCP’s values and match our desired student academic profile.
As a result of their successful partnerships at peer institutions, UNCP engaged Royall in September 2010 to assist in the assembling of our fall 2011 freshman class. DoIT’s Pam Chavis and Ken Brayboy, with assistance from Dawn Albrecht and Tom Jackson, worked closely this fall with Admissions Director Lela Clark and Royall technical staff to develop the necessary system interfaces. Student inquiries and application data seamlessly flow from Royall Systems into UNCP’s admission systems and processes as a result of this automation and interface work.
Jackie Clark, Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management has high expectations for this relationship. “We believe that Royall and Company will be a critical partner assisting UNCP in identifying students that meet our increasing academic standards and fit well with our core value and heritage of offering educational opportunities to a diverse student body.” Clark further shared that this project also provides some very real cost savings for UNCP by reducing travel normally associated with building and maintaining that all important personal relationship with a prospective student. By using this technology, assistant directors can develop and maintain those effective relationships not only in our prospective students’ senior year, but in their sophomore and junior years as well.
DoIT sees this partnership effort as an excellent example of technology being used to support and enhance efforts at achieving UNCP’s strategic directions and aspirations. According to Associate CIO Tom Jackson, the project was “fast-tracked” due to a rapidly approaching start date for the recruitment cycle. Applications staff understood the strategic nature of the project and responded accordingly. Jackson stated, “I am quite proud of how everyone stepped up to the challenge, balancing their continuing workload while successfully launching this partnership.”
Kelley Powell, Director of Business Project Management for Royall was impressed at the speed of the implementation. “Everyone at UNCP has shown unwavering support and dedication in providing the necessary data support for the new student recruitment program spearheaded by the Admissions staff.” “Along with my responsibilities of Data Excellence at Royall & Company, I have firsthand experience to know this process can sometimes take months to finalize.” “Your team should be very proud of accomplishing these tasks in only a matter of weeks.” “You have an impressive data team at UNCP.” “Most impressive is their genuine dedication to help UNCP achieve its enrollment goals for the coming year” “That dedication is unique and deserves recognition.
