E-mail Outage Update:

Faculty, staff and students,
We will turn the Webmail Web access back on at 11 a.m., Wednesday, so you may access your old files if you were not previously migrated to Exchange. What you will see are e-mails that arrived up until the evening of Monday the 13th, the time of our last backup. NOTE: if everyone attempts to access Webmail within the first couple of hours, it will be slow. If there are problems with your files please call our helpdesk and we can work individually with you to get those correctly restored. We restored in bulk 15,000 e-mail accounts so there may be some errors along the way, but we have the backup and can find those files for you if necessary. Again, email received on the 14th was not backed up.
If you use Outlook or another email program, that program may have stored in your inbox, the e-mails delivered between Monday evening and Tuesday at approximately 4PM when the failure occurred. Cindy will resend her email from yesterday with instructions for how to save those messages from Tuesday if they are cached in your inbox. E-mails sent since 4 PM last Tuesday will (is) being delivered to Exchange.
The delivery of backlogged messages continues. We have delivered nearly 25% of those and the process is chugging along on the remaining 560,000. Turning on Webmail access will slow this delivery process. Our plans are to turn off access to Webmail this evening at 10 p.m. to allow all resources to focus on delivering e-mail. We will turn the Web access back on tomorrow around 8 AM. Our focus is on clearing the backlog and on getting you access to your old e-mails.
The server has a mind of its own it seems as it delivers the backlogged e-mail. It was a surprise to see that some of the backlogged email is going to Webmail, but no matter where it is delivered, the important thing is that you have access to it through Webmail or OWA.
