DoIT replaces UCIS

Effective immediately, DoIT announces a name change to the Division of Information Technology (DoIT). The university’s Executive Committee approved the name change at a recent meeting as the new name better reflects the services and support that UNCP’s information technology organization provides for students, faculty and staff.

From infrastructure, system administration, network, telecommunication, application development, technical training and classroom support, the division provides a broad array of services to the institution. The Division of Information Technology consists of five primary departments: the Office of the CIO, Client Services, Applications Development and Support, the University Media Center, and Network and System Administration. DoIT is now beginning to update necessary documents to reflect the change, including the Web address.

“Our new distributed approach to technology to empower the user is quite a different approach than traditional computing services. Our efforts to engage the campus proactively in planning and implementation of systems and services are reflective of best practices in information technology,” said Robert Orr, associate vice chancellor for information resources and CIO. “I am delighted the Executive Committee approved the name change. UCIS had a long, successful history at UNCP. We’ll build upon that as DoIT charts a new course consistent with successful higher education information technology practices.”
