Reassignment of computer equipment

It has come to my attention that computer equipment is being reassigned without the knowledge of DoIT. UNCP policy requires that anyone "wishing to assign a computer system to another person, surplus the equipment, or otherwise dispose of the equipment must obtain a certificate of readiness form DoIT." This policy, DoIT 03 02 Disposal of Computer Equipment, may be viewed in full at www.uncp.edu/doit/policies.

In addition to the concerns mentioned in that policy, equipment is configured differently for student use than for faculty and staff use. There are areas of the network that can not be accessed from a machine configured for student use. So moving a machine from a faculty/staff area into a student area without the proper configuration is a breach of security.
