ResNet SafeConnect Migration
Division of Information Technology
The Division of Information Technology at UNCP is replacing Cisco Clean Access system, which governs access to ResNet. SafeConnect will introduce a few subtle changes to how PC and Mac users connect (via Ethernet) to the Internet, and will eliminate wait times for registration of game consoles.
After the upgrade and initial transition, we expect that students will find the new system easier to use and more responsive.
The transition will require that the SafeConnect client be installed onto PCs and Macs, which access the Internet from a wired Ethernet connection. Much like Clean Access, SafeConnect only gathers information about a computer’s security and anti-virus configuration. It does not track any other information, nor does it store any confidential information.
After the deployment of SafeConnect, install this client on a PC or Mac (connected by Ethernet) by opening a web browser to access the log-in page. After logging in, download the Safe Connect client (or "Policy Key").
Step-by-step instructions on this process can be found here.
Residential students will be able to register game consoles via a link behind BraveWeb, called “Manual Device Enrollment”. Step-by-step instructions can be found here.
Existing consoles registered on ResNet before March 11 will have to be registered again using the above process.
While there is no harm in leaving the Cisco Clean Access client on your PC, uninstall it to free up system resources. Step-by-step instructions on how to remove the Cisco Clean Access client can be found here.
