Faculty Senate Academic Support Committee Report

SPARC

One of the driving forces for the forthcoming strategic plan is:  “RAPIDLY EVOLVING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY WILL MANDATE TECH SUPPORT AND EDUCATION TO OFFER ON-LINE COURSES AND REMAIN COMPETIVE.” 

The Strategic Planning and Resources Council has conducted two university-wide forums to collect input on IT. The minutes of the two forums are available on the SPARC site on Blackboard (use your email login to access). 

IS Audit

A team of 5 information system auditors from the North Carolina Auditors Office began an audit of DoIT on November 6, 2006. The last IS audit was conducted in 2001-2002. Actually, the audit team began requesting information through a series of questionnaires in mid-October.

UNC Cause

Several staff members from UNCP attended the UNC Cause conference in New Bern. UNC Cause is traditionally focused on topics of interest to the UNC IT community.

Teaching and Learning with Technology Collaborative – Annual conference

The 2007 Conference will again be held at the North Raleigh Hilton. Dates for the 2007 conference are March 21-23, 2007. 151 proposals were received from 29 institutions in 5 states (Yes, this has grown bigger than just the UNC). Of the 151, 11 came from UNCP.

Banner newsletter

The second issue of Banner Bits ‘n Bytes will soon be available at http://www.uncp.edu/relations/banner. University and Community Relations is publishing the newsletter designed to inform the UNCP community about Banner, the Banner project, what it means to UNCP, and who has been and will be involved in this massive project. The newsletter will be published monthly and features perspective and helpful tips.
