George Johnson is Television Engineer and Instructor in the Department of Mass Communication. He teaches Computer Animation, Media Integration and Television Production. George is co-founder of the UNCP Digital Academy. Before coming to UNCP, George worked in commercial broadcast television in various cities in North Carolina for 8 years. He came to UNCP in 1989 to work with WPSU-TV, now WNCP-TV.
  

A long term MAC user and video consultant, George works with faculty and staff on issues related to Apple computers and related technologies. He collaborates on long and short-term video projects and since arriving at UNCP he has collaborated on many video projects with the Native American Resource Center. Clips from the lastest production “In the Heart of Tradition” are now featured on the Digital Academy Creative Projects webpage. 

George works with students to broadcast major events on campus. He facilitates live TV and webcasting of UNCP graduations and various sporting events. George co-produces videos and DVDs for performers and regional bands including the UNCP Faculty-Staff Jam Band, the Junque Gallery, and big mama E and the cool.

In his “spare time” George plays bass guitar in several bands including the UNCP Faculty-Staff Jam Band.
