Dr. Chuck Lillie of the Math and Computer Science Department presents on the development of applications for the iPod by UNCP students.
Background story: Apple provided twenty-five iPod Touch devices to UNCP to be used to develop apps. The devices were provided to Mathematics and Computer Science and Mass Communication departments. Computer Science will develop apps that can be used in Mass Communication class work as well as other students and the general public. The Computer Science students will development a framework that will have the common functions used to integrate other specific apps about the campus. Additional apps will be added that will provide information about UNCP that can be used by students, faculty, and visitors. Included will be general information about UNCP (history, news, calendar, etc), student information (course schedule, etc.), faculty information (course schedule, etc.) and alerts (weather, etc.).
About our presenter: Dr. Chuck Lillie is an Associate Professor in Computer Science. His background includes twenty years as an Air Force officer supporting NASA programs, foreign intelligence, software development, and computer policy. His final assignment was supporting the Strategic Defense Initiative (Stars War Program) as the chief software engineer. Before coming to UNCP he was software manager and chief scientist at Science Applications International Corporation in Washington, DC supporting Army network projects and pioneering electronic commerce on the World Wide Web. |
