Student Awards

Each year the Department of Geology and Geography bestows awards to outstanding students. Descriptions of the awards and past recipients are provided below.

Thomas E. and Cheryl E. Ross Scholarship: 

Established by Professor Emeritus Thomas Ross, this scholarship is awarded in the spring each year by the Department of Geology and Geography to a student focusing on Geography (either as a track in the Geo-Environmental Studies major or a Geography minor) or who participates on the UNCP team for the World Geography Bowl.

Requirements:

  • A minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Completed at least six semester hours of geography courses
  • Must not be graduating in the current semester
  • Recipient must participate in the NC Geography Bowl the following Fall Semester

The recipient is announced in the Spring of each year.
