Voices of the Lumbee, a documentary film that raises awareness about the ongoing struggles of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina in the wake of decades of economic downturn in the coastal plains region, is scheduled to screen at the Longleaf Film Festival on Saturday May 14th at 11am. The full festival schedule is here. The event is free to the public.
Voices is a great example of the oportunities ETFL faculty offer students beyond the classroom. It was created by Dr Michele Fazio, of ETFL, Dr. Jason Hutchens, of Mass Media and Communications, and then UNC-P students, Alexis Locklear, Constance Faulk, and Sandra Torres. The film has been accepted in numerous film festivals and toured as a cultural exhibit. For more information, check out the official website!
