The Coalition to Prevent Alcohol-Related Consequences (C-PARC) is a campus and community partnership that seeks to use environmental strategies to reduce underage and high-risk drinking among UNCP students. C-PARC has developed six strategies that aim not only to make reductions in alcohol use, but also to change the environment in which alcohol use and students co-exist. A comprehensive social norming campaign, increased enforcement and compliance efforts, late night alternative programming, and new alcohol policies all focus on making reductions in primary and secondary alcohol-related consequences. Making decreases in alcohol-related noise, vandalism, and conflict will create an atmosphere more conducive to learning and socializing in a healthy and safe way. 69% of UNCP students drink 0-4 drinks when they drink (2005 College Drinking Survey). These students are more likely to remain at UNCP if they feel safe and undisturbed by alcohol-related disruptions. |
