We offer...
- Career Consulting -
The director is available to discuss your individual educational
and career plans. Call to make an appointment to talk about your
career concerns and interests.
- DISCOVER -
DISCOVER is a computerized career guidance and information system.
This program can help you identify personal interests, abilities
and values, plus gather up-to-date occupational and graduate school
information.
- Career Library
- Our career library is filled with resources related to self-assessment,
specific occupations, and employer information. The career library is
open from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. We also have an Online
Career Library you can access from your computer 24 hours
a day. Contact The Career Center for a password.
- Career Development
Workshops - A variety of workshops are offered throughout the academic
year (click here for a list of workshops
and events). Topics include: deciding on a major, resume writing, interviewing
techniques, and job search strategies. Guest speakers are also invited
to discuss career opportunites.
- Internships
- Information about internships are available. Internships are an excellent
way to enhance your job development skills. Most departments will give
academic credit for internship experiences.
- Graduate & Professional
School Information - Catalogs, books, directories, as well
as a computerized graduate school locater are available to help
you make decisions about post-graduate education. Visit with Graduate & Professional
Schools every semester at the Career Expo! Approximately 25-35 graduate
schools attend and share information about admission requirements,
majors, financial aid, etc.

- Internet -
Job listings, graduate schools and other career planning information
can be found on the Internet.
- Resume Service
- Resumes/cover letters can be reviewed by appointment or by dropping
them off in our office. Resumes/cover letters that are dropped off will
be critiqued within 48 hours. We have hundereds of excellent resume/cover
letter examples in our career library. Seniors should post their resumes
on our web service Brave Opportunities (click
here for help).
Resume Checklist [PDF | Word] In order for you to post your resume on our online recruitment system, it must be critiqued and approved by a UNCP Career Center consultant. It is important for you to review this checklist and update your resume before your appointment with a consultant. This will help you to have your resume approved in a timely manner. When updating your resume, jot down any concerns or questions you may have so they can be discussed with a consultant during your scheduled appointment. For more detailed information and examples of resume formats, visit our Career Resource Library anytime during our hours of operation.
- Mock Interview
Service - Videotaped mock interviews are available by appointment
only. Mock interviews are critiqued and the process usually takes
about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Feel free to bring a blank tape so that
you can keep the mock interview experience.
- On-Campus Interview
Program - Employer representatives from various organizations visit
the campus to conduct job interviews with seniors and alumni. Students
must have a resume critiqued by Career Services staff in order to take
advantage of this service. Click

- Career Fairs -
Employer representatives from a variety of private, public, and governmental
organizations provide company information and discuss job and/or
internship opportunities with students. The following events
scheduled for Fall 2008:
UNCP Career Expo-an event featuring recruiters from Graduate and Professional Schools, Government Agencies, and Private Industry
Teacher Education Fair-a recruiting event targeting education majors and others interested in the education industry. Recruiters from local and regional school districts will be in attendance.
- Phone/FAX
Service - Students may use our phone or fax to contact or send
materials to employers or graduate schools.
