I want to attend one of UNC Pembroke's off-campus
sites or UNC Pembroke Online. How do I get started?
You should apply
for regular admission to UNC Pembroke. You may request an application
packet and catalog from the following offices: UNCP Office of Admissions,
UNCP Office of Continuing Education and Distance Education, UNCP
at Richmond Community College, and UNCP at Sandhills Community College.
You may also download an application from the UNCP Admission's website
at www.uncp.edu/admissions/apply/default.asp.
In order for your application to be evaluated, you must complete
the application; include the nonrefundable $40 application fee, request
a high school transcript and transcripts from each college you attended,
and complete a University Questionnaire from the last college you
attended. For classes offered at Richmond and Sandhills Community
Colleges, please return documents to the respective sites, otherwise,
send documents to the Office of Continuing Education and Distance
Education.![]()
All students requesting
financial aid must complete the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid. This free application is available at the Office
of Financial Aid at UNCP and the Off-campus offices at Richmond
Community College and Sandhills Community College. You may also apply
online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
The Financial Aid Office at UNC Pembroke will only process your financial
aid if you have been accepted into the University. Since financial
aid is not renewed automatically, you must reapply each year.![]()
I
already have some college credit. How many credit hours will transfer?
The Office of Admissions
determines transfer credit.![]()
What
is the difference between general education classes and degree
requirements?
In addition to
all major requirements, UNC Pembroke requires students who are pursuing
baccalaureate degrees to complete a 44-hour general education program
to provide students with an understanding of a variety of disciplines.![]()
I
am no longer in my 20's. Am I expected to take Physical Education
courses?
Yes, physical education
is part of the general education requirement at UNCP. Two hours of
physical education are required.![]()
Yes, UNCP has developed
its off-campus and online programs for working adults who wish to
attend classes part-time. The University usually schedules off-campus
evening classes for working adults who have full time jobs during
the day, and online courses are typically designed in an asynchronous
format that allows you to study at your convinence.![]()
How will I know what courses to take?
An assigned advisor
will help you select your courses according to your major. During
the early registration period, advisors will make themselves available
to off-campus students.![]()
Where
do I register for courses?
For courses offered
online, you may register online.
For courses offered at Richmond and Sandhills Community Colleges,
you may register with the Program Coordinators' at the respective
sites or the Office of Continuing Education and Distance Education
on the main UNCP campus. For all other sites, contact the Office
of Continuing Education and Distance Education.![]()
For classes taken
at UNCP at Richmond Community College, the RCC Bookstore sells those
texts. For classes taken at UNCP at Sandhills Community College,
books are sold on the first night of each class. Course materials
for sites other than RCC and SCC must be purchased online from the
UNCP Bookstore at www.uncp.edu/bookstore;
however, please contact the Office of Continuing Education and Distance
Education for specifics.![]()
What
if I need help with one of my classes?
Students are welcome
to take advantage of tutoring sessions on the main UNC Pembroke campus.
If you are not able to attend these, every effort will be made to
accommodate your request at the off-campus sites or online.![]()
How
do I drop or add an off-campus class?
If enrolled in
a class at Richmond and Sandhills Community Colleges, you must contact
the respective Program Coordinator or the Office of Continuing Education
and Distance Education before the last day to drop a course with
a "W" grade. After the drop/add period, you must pay a
two-dollar transaction fee. Those enrolled at other sites must contact
the Office of Continuing Education and Distance Education.![]()
If
I attend class off-campus, do I have to get any shots?
No, but you do
need to complete the Report of Medical History and Family and Personal
History which the University requires for students enrolled in off-campus
courses. However, if you attend day classes on campus, you must complete
the Immunization Record.![]()
I
already have Health Insurance. Do I still need the insurance required
by UNCP?
If you plan to
take nine (9) or more semester hours, the University will charge
$190 per semester for health insurance. If you wish to waive this
insurance, you must complete the insurance waiver form and return
it to the Student Accounts Office before the deadline each semester.![]()
Can
I use UNCP's Sampson-Livermore library?
Yes, use of the
library is included in tuition and fees. However, to access electronic
resources, contact Sampson-Livermore
library.![]()
Can
I use other main campus facilities?
Yes, you may pay
a $50 fee and receive a UNCP Braves card, assess to athletic events
and Performing Arts productions, and use of the auxiliary gym, including
the Wellness Center.![]()
Should
I be aware of any other requirements?
There are several
requirements that UNCP will expect you to address. In this FAQ, we
are not attempting to explain everything you will need to know. Please
