Welcome from the Chancellor
The
University of North Carolina at Pembroke was founded in 1887 as the first
state-supported college for American Indians in the United States. It is a
remarkable story of a people’s passion for education and their belief that
education is the foundation for a better life. From the beginning, the
University’s story is one of building opportunities and transforming lives and
communities.
Today
UNCP has grown into a comprehensive regional university that is part of the
17-member University of North Carolina system. Its mission has expanded over
the years to serve all North Carolinians regardless of race, but its core
purpose remains the same: to transform lives through education.
As you
review our academic catalog, you will find 41 undergraduate and 17 graduate
degree programs designed to provide students with a high-quality education at a
very affordable price. UNCP offers an
intimate teaching and learning environment that features small classes and
outstanding faculty. Opportunities abound to engage in research, leadership,
community service, the arts, organizations, athletics, and much more.
I invite you to review the catalog and our website (www.uncp.edu) to get to know us better. However, the best way to appreciate UNCP is to visit our beautiful campus and meet some of the great people here. When you do, you will discover that we are proud of our past, excited about the future, and we fully embrace our role in providing educational opportunities to students who wish to find their place in the world. Come experience UNCP’s pride and dedication to your success. We welcome you to join us.
Sincerely,
Chancellor
