HOW YOU CAN HELP YOUR STUDENT
- Remember that it is ultimately the student’s final decision about choice of major/career
- Help your student set realistic expectations about the world of work
- Be realistic about your own expectations
- Support and encourage your student during the job search, but make him or her take full responsibility for it
- Help your student stay on track by showing you are interested in (but not worried about) the progress of his or her job search
- Remind your student to keep working at the job search and help him or her keep a positive attitude when rejection occurs
- Remind your student that you understand he or she may not have a job by graduation, and provide some emotional and a little financial support
- Purchase and read The Parent’s Crash Course in Career Planning
- Encourage your student to utilize The Career Center
