Q1: What is GOOD academic standing?

A: The minimum scholastic requirements can be found on page 43 of the current catalog. In order to be considered in "GOOD" academic standing you must meet the following Quality Point Average based on Semester Hours attempted.

Q2: What is academic warning?

A: A student with 1-18 attempted hours must have a quality point average of 1.5 or they will be placed on "warning". While on academic warning students are restriceted to enrollment of not more than 13 semester hours and must maintain a 2.0 semester quality point average. If the student does not meet the minimum scholastic requirement during the warning semester or maintain the 2.0 semester quality point average he or she will be placed on probation. Any new student (freshman or transfer) who receives all "F"s in academic courses will be placed directly on academic "probation". Refer to your catalog for more information. Return to Top of Page


Q3: What is academic probation?

A: Students with 19 or more attempted hours that fall below the minimum scholastic requirements will be placed on probation and any new student (freshman or transfer) who receives all "F"s in academic courses will be placed on probation. Also, students that were on warning and were not able to meet the scholastic requirements outlined above will be placed on probation. While on probation, students are restricted to enrollment of not more than 13 semester hours and must maintain at least a 2.0 semester quality point average or they will be suspended for two (2) semesters. Q4: What should I do if I am placed on academic warning?

A: If you are placed on academic warning, you should contact your academic advisor and/or the Center for Academic Excellence immediately. They can go over the requirements with you and help you make a solid plan to get back in good standing. Return to Top of Page


Q5: What should I do if I am placed on academic probation?

A: If you are placed on academic probation, you should contact your academic advisor and the Center for Academic Excellence immediately. It is important to discuss with an advisor the areas in which you are having problems and to begin to create a plan to get back on track. There are many services available at UNCP and the staff at the Center for Academic Excellence can help you pinpoint specific success strategies. Return to Top of Page
