Q1: What is a Grade Replacement?

A: Grade replacement is when a student repeats a course and after making a better grade requests to have that grade calculated into their GPA instead of the first grade. The first grade is still on the student's transcript, but it is excluded from the GPA calculation.

Q2: How many Grade Replacements am I allowed?

A: New freshmen are allowed 15 hours of grade replacement. Transfer students are allowed:

Transfer Hours Accepted As of Fall 1994 Maximum Hours of Replacement
0 - 23 15
24 - 51 hours 12
52 - 89 hours 9
90 or more hours 6

Q3: Do other institutions honor Grade Replacements?

A: That will depend on the institution's policy on grade replacement. Not all institutions will honor grade replacements.

Q4: How do I request a Grade Replacement?

A: The student must re-take the class and receive their new grade. Then they go to the Office of the Registar and fill out the grade replacement form and turn it in. It is important to note that just because you re-take the course does not mean the grade is automatically replaced, the form MUST be filled out and returned to the Office of the Registar.
