Advising Faqs
Q1: What is an Academic Advisor?
A: Every student at UNCP has an assigned academic advisor. An academic advisor is a UNCP faculty or staff member that can help you get the most out of your time here at UNCP. If you have any questions about UNCP policy and procedure they can help you find the answer. They can also assist you with registration and scheduling. Academic Advisors are a great resource!
A: As a freshman, your advisor will be your Freshman Seminar instructor until you officially declare a major and complete the declaration of major form. Once you declare your major and submit the declaration of major form to the registrars office, your advisor will be a faculty member in your major. You can see who is listed as your advisor on BraveWeb in the Student Information section.
Q3: Where is my Advisor located?
A: You can use the Faculty and Staff Directory on the UNCP website to find out where your advisor is located. ![]()
Q4: When should I go see my Advisor?
A: Having a good relationship with your academic advisor is essential for developing an educational plan that will help you meet your academic and career goals. You will be required to meet with your advisor every semester before scheduling classes for the next semester. However, it is a good rule of thumb to meet with your advisor before making any academic decisions, i.e., adding or withdrawing from a class. You should also meet with your advisor anytime that you have questions about university policy and procedure. ![]()
