UPeers program

APPLICATION FOR FALL 2007

UPeers are successful, upper-class students who are successful academically, are involved in campus life, and have a desire to help new freshmen manage their transition to UNCP. UPeers attend all sessions of their assigned Freshman Seminar class and participate in special leadership seminars. They serve as the bridge between the instructor and student, assist in planning of the syllabus and teaching course content, assist in moderating and facilitating class discussion, communicate with students outside of class, provide feedback to the instructor, serve as a freshman advocate, are guides to campus resources, and serve as a role model for academic, co-curricular, and leadership behaviors.

UPeers Requirements:

  • Sophomore standing or above as of the Fall Semester 2007
  • Completion of Freshman Seminar Training Workshop held in the spring semester
  • Campus Involvement
  • Commitment to achieve the ideals presented in the UNCP Academic Honor Code
  • Interest in working as a team member with a Freshman Seminar Instructor
  • Willingness to model appropriate behavior and serve as a mentor for freshman students

UPeers Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an advocate for the interests, needs, and rights of first-year UNCP students
  • Serve as a mentor for academic, co-curricular, and leadership involvement
  • Help students adjust and become academically successful
  • Assist in planning of syllabus, course content, and class logistics
  • Assist in facilitating class discussions
  • Communicate regularly with Freshman Seminar students
  • Serve as a liaison for student feedback to the instructor
  • Assist in evaluation of students' work
