Dr. Xinyan Shi is an assistant professor of economics in the Department of Economics, Finance, and Decision Sciences. Prior to her appointment at UNCP, she worked at Central Michigan University for a year as visiting professor, and was employed as a consultant before joining the graduate program. Dr. Shi's research interests include microeconomic theory, game theory, industrial organization, information economics, behavioral economics, public economics and financial economics. Her research has been presented at numerous national economic conferences. Her research articles have been published by International Journal of Economics Theory, International Journal of Management Theory and Practices, Briefing Notes in Economics, International Journal of Business and Economics Prospectives. Currently, she is also working as the economic consultant for UNCP Biodiesel Grant Project funded by Department of Energy.
In additional to teaching and doing research, Dr. Shi is also passionate about civic engagement and community services. She was appointed as 2012 -2013 Service Learning fellow. In Fall 2012, Dr. Shi and her graduate class offered economic consulting services for Carolina Philharmonic, which is located in Pinehurst, NC. Currently, she and her undergraduate class are working on another project for a local business.
