Dr. Powers is Professor of Management in the Management, Marketing, and International Business Department.  During his 25 years at UNCP, he has been Chair of the Business Department, Interim Business Dean, Director of Business Undergraduate Programs, and Chair of the Management, Marketing, and International Business Department.  When hired as Business Department Chair in 1988, he was the University’s first faculty member to possess a PhD in Business, and in 1990, he hired four additional PhD’s in Business, including the University’s first ever endowed professor.  Also in 1990, he led the Business faculty in revamping the curriculum into the current CBK/Concentrations format.  As Interim Dean in 2002, he secured the School’s first membership in AACSB, and initiated the School’s efforts to achieve accreditation.  Dr. Powers’ teaching and research areas are management theory, human resource management, and Equal Employment Opportunity.  In 2001, he became the only UNCP professor ever to receive two Adolph Dial University Awards in one year, one for Scholarship, and one for Community Service.  Dr. Powers’ PhD is from the University of South Carolina, and his MBA and BSBA are from West Virginia University.  Previous teaching experience includes East Carolina University, Clemson University, Charleston Southern University, University of North Dakota, Minnesota State University at Moorhead, and St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia.  Ed is a native of West Virginia (Montani Semper Liberi), and his wife Mary is from Bishopville, South Carolina.  They reside in Lumberton, and enjoy Shagging, NASCAR races, Myrtle Beach, and spending time in their second home in Raleigh, near grandchildren.
