Biology Alumna, Sonya Chavis, Completes Second Year of Veterinary School (July 2011)

Sonya Marie Chavis ('08) has just completed her second year at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in Raleigh, where she is on track to earn a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2013. Sonya is a member of NCSU's Bovine Club, Small Ruminant Club, Christian Veterinary Fellowship, and the Swine Club. She is also a member of the Fund Raising Committee for the Graduating Class of 2013.

During her break from vet school this summer, she has been working in Dr. David Brooks' Pembroke Veterinary Clinic, to gain more clinical experience.

Upon earning her DVM degree, she plans to
return to the Pembroke/Lumberton area to
establish a mixed animal practice, treating both small and large animals.

Sonya earned a B.S. in Biology (track in Zoology) at UNCP in 2008 while working part-time for Dr. David Brooks.
